Using furniture to make modifications to an environment is the first step, but sometimes additional support is needed. When making further changes to an environment, these are some of my must-have, quick, easy-to-implement, and low-cost items to add to any space.
Velcro tape
Velcro tape is at the top of my list due to its ease of use and ability to clearly show boundaries or even create designated parking spots for items. Different color options can be used in areas to indicate that it is off-limits (red) or to show the boundaries of where students should stand (a variety of colors). Velcro tape can also be reused from year to year, making it an excellent investment for your classroom.
Velcro dots
These dots are another great investment for your classroom, as they are also reusable like the Velcro tape. They can be used as spots during group or circle time to indicate where to sit or as an indication of forming a line when it is time to line up in class.
Colored Masking Tape
To create boundaries on tables or desks, using colored tape is a great option. Another great use of masking tape is to create an independent work system, indicating the work that needs to be completed (green), the work that is in progress (yellow), and the completion of tasks (red).
Magnetic Light Covers
Not only can these be used for their intended purpose of covering lights to decrease the visual overload of fluorescent lights, but teachers can also use magnetic light covers to cover parts of a bookshelf or other areas. By covering areas that are off boundaries, light covers provide that visual.
Simple Visuals for the Classroom
Serving the exact purpose of the Velcro dots, creating a visual of feet to use as a visual boundary of where to stand when lining up.
Stop visuals can also be created to indicate an off-limits area or to signal a pause and wait when exiting the classroom or school building.
