Video Tutorial: Independent Work Centers for Higher Functioning Students

My year started out in a funk because I found that would be having one less paraprofessional this year. My whining and venting was doing nothing to make my daily go more successfully and I knew I needed to buck up and deal with it. Less staff = much more independent work. It’s not ideal but it’s what many of us are forced to deal with. I wanted to create systems for my higher functioning kiddos so they are doing more advanced independent work at their level. I thought it’d be easiest to explain in video – so enjoy my preggo belly & fast talking! Let me know if you have any questions!

  10. Yes! Make sure your paras know how to keep it updated (ie. making sure there are enough copies in the center binders, switching out centers each week, changing boggle letters). I made my para a weekly checklist (actually I used it too before I went on leave) and I did it with her a few weeks and then had her do it on her own a few weeks to make sure it all made sense. When I went in for a visit it was still rolling away! And make sure the sub follows up on checking the work so there is still a contingency in place to do the work correctly! 🙂
