The days leading up to the beginning of the school year can quickly become filled with meetings, prepping the classroom, creating materials, etc., making it challenging to find time to train staff. Between being short-staffed and having limited time to train, teachers must get creative when determining how to train their staff. Check out two different ideas for efficiently training staff.
Weekly Staff Meetings
A consistent weekly meeting with your paras is crucial to creating a successful classroom. These meetings can review student IEP goals, brainstorm solutions to various situations, discuss behavior plans, provide training, and discuss classroom expectations. When planning an agenda for weekly staff meetings, keep them short and to the point.
Training Document
A structured plan is key to ensuring that training occurs. While it may take some time to set up, a comprehensive training document is a powerful tool to provide consistent and practical training to your staff. This document has an assigned video training for each week of the school year and an area for staff to write notes/questions. Staff can collaborate with the team to have more discussions or ask questions based on each training.
