In the market to beef up your independent work task activities? Look no further, the Communication Based Work Task Mega Pack has it all. If you keep up with The Autism Helper team, then you know how much we all love and vouch for student independence. This resource comes with 23 different work tasks, all revolving around communication. From social skills to pronouns, it ensures that the speech pathologist isn’t the only one hitting these crucial skills.
The tasks that come within this bundle are created to fit any kind of instructional need; whether that means independent work or small group instruction, it is multi-purposeful. For those of you that have independent work box systems, I’m sure you can relate when I say that I find myself guilty of riding out the same work tasks for far too long. Once laminated and prepped, all of these work tasks can be implemented within your student’s independent work with little to no additional materials necessary. To ensure that this process remains as effortless as possible, each work task comes with a task description and a list of any materials needed. Common additional materials include small bins, clothespins, and of course the holy grail, velcro. Throw them in your work stations or organize them in our favorite plastic bins and voila! You’re in business.
Another reason that this mega pack just works is because it models the skills and teaching tools that many of us implement already. If someone took frequency data on the amount of times I give the direction to “match” throughout the school day, I’m sure I’d be slightly embarrassed. Matching, sorting, categorizing and handwriting are all skills that our students work on within all subjects and curriculum that we teach. Within these activities your students will practice matching words to pictures, sorting objects by function, writing proper pronouns within a visual sentence, and categorizing different items within their proper environment – just to name a few.
What makes this resource unique is the variety of content and leveled work which it contains. It shows the use of real photos and animated photos. It includes behavioral communication, such as identifying a polite comment versus a rude one. Investing in this resource will allow you to meet each student where they are. As a teacher for students aged five through twelve, I can confidently report that there are appropriate tasks for everyone. These tasks push our students to think outside of the box. They will learn to utilize adjectives and follow directions, and man is that important! I am so excited that I have the opportunity to recommend this resource to my fellow teachers out there. If you are already utilizing this work task and want more, then check out the many other work task bundles that we have to offer at The Autism Helper Store.
