Teaching Yes or No {Video Tutorial}

 

Teaching the ability to answer yes and no is extremely important and functional. We developed a program based on one of our student’s inability to differentiate between answering “yes” or “no”.  The student would answer “no” to questions without the answer properly representing the actual answer to the question.  In order to teach the difference between “yes” and “no” we created a program

Yes and No

This program would be great for students who cannot answer yes/no questions.

Errorless learning helps students learn the correct response and prevent a habit of incorrect answers.

  5. I began to use this program with a nonverbal 12 year old. He is responding “yes” to everything even though we know he knows the items. When we try to use the “no” and are looking for the “no” response he gets mad and begins to bang. We believe he thinks we are telling him “no”. How can we work on this or do we continue and hope he begins to understand the difference?

  6. It’s so hard to do error correction with this program because you almost don’t want to say “yes” and “no” for correct and incorrect because it gets really confusing. Are you using the word flashcard prompts? When my student gets it incorrectly (ie. says yes when he should say no) – I don’t say anything but just keep pointing to the no flashcard until he says no. Then provide reinforcement. Does that make sense a bit?

  10. I have known a number of autistic children in a family setting and learned that most are searching for someone who can relate to their life and the limitations they do not consider important.
