I cannot believe it’s time to be writing a summertime post! How is it already June (or maybe you’re thinking…finally)? I’ve rounded up some of my favorite activities that will help you finish up your year and get you started if you are continuing to summer school!
Weather & Season File Folders
This resource comes with a lot of different versions and scaffolding activities! Remember that even if a matching board comes in a field of 12, you can always cut it up into strips of three or sections of six. You also do not need to print off the entire resource if you do not yet have students working on that skill. When I send a version of this home with some students, I will write a note about how parents can extend this activity. You could count the number of summertime objects on the board, find the objects in your home (hello generalization!) and even play pretend (i.e.: take the lemonade visual and pretend to drink it). Additionally, these boards can be used to work on receptive vocabulary and differentiated even within the type of question. For example, you may ask one student to “touch beach ball” and ask another student, “what would you wear on your feet?”. The possibilities are endless! You can find this activity here.
Summer Easy Matching Weekly Workbooks
I do not think there is a week that goes by that I’m not using one of these Matching Weekly Workbooks. And while I work with super young kiddos, I do appreciate that not only are these books themed but that they come in an intermediate and a complex option! There’s always a resource for your students. I love that everyone can participate and enjoy working on skills. Just like the activities above, I encourage you to extend these activities. Pretend to lick the ice cream cone pieces, shiver like you’re cold and ask extension questions about the kids floating in the pool. What color raft are they on? Who is on the blue raft? Where are they swimming? Do you like to swim? The possibilities are endless! For my young learners, I tend to position the matching towards the back of the book as many of my students are working on errorless learning. You can find these awesome summer interactive books here!
June Bingo
Another one of my favorite monthly activities is the Bingo series. Of course, we are currently working on June, and I love that this also comes in different levels! I found some cute rubber fruit pieces at the Dollar Tree last year that we have been using as bingo markers. You could also laminate or slide these boards into clear page savers and use dry erase markers. Themed monthly Bingo is such a fun way to practice vocabulary, work stamina and turn taking (calling out the object card). Find the bingo cards here. Happy June teaching!
