Teachers often ask how they can best support students in specials classes (art, PE, music, technology, etc.). Below, I have outlined some tips and strategies to help our learners succeed in these classes.

Tips and Strategies for Supporting Students in Specials:
Visuals
Use visual supports to help students understand their expectations, supplies needed, etc.

Simplify the Activity
Again, use visuals to help simplify activities by breaking down the instructions into smaller steps.

Give Choices and Make Modifications
Allow students to choose the order of activities or between two different activities and modify activities as needed per each student.

Alternate Activities
Sometimes, our students may need a completely different activity. Have a bag or box with some go-to activities ready to pull from when needed.

What does errorless art look like?
In the post, she has pictures of file folder activities that are art-themed and errorless. “Put the scissors in the art room,” for example. She is giving this example as an idea for modifications or alternative activities for students. If you have more questions, you can email [email protected] and she can help!
