I know most of you are probably already on break if you work in the schools but there and some who still have school today and tomorrow and others who might be doing some private therapy this week so here are a few last minute ideas to work on with your students.  I finished out my previous week reading What is Santa Doing?, making cute Santa Faces, and eating Christmas Cone Treats.  It was a good end to a busy Holiday season!

“What is Santa Doing?” focuses on the students identifying different action verbs which describe the Santa picture.  For this book the students have to listen to what Santa is doing such as “dancing to music” and find the correct Santa picture to match the description.

The book also target sequencing skills.  There are 2 sequencing question pages to add to the book.  For my students I found it helpful to attach the first sequencing question page (1^st-4^th) after the 4^th action Santa did.  I read what Santa did 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th and then had the students complete the first sequencing question page.

I attached the second sequencing page (5^th-8^th) at the end of the book.  I read what Santa did 5^th, 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th and then had the students complete the second sequencing question page.  This really helped my students be able to correctly put the actions in order because they only had to remember 4 actions at a time instead of all 8.   Have the students look back in the book to help answer the questions.

My awesome Occupational Therapist thought of this fun Santa face follow up craft to pair with the book.  It started out again like the reindeer last week by tracing the students’ hands.  After you trace your students’ hands, help them cut out their hands.

We traced the outline of the thumb and top part of hand to cut out and add to the top for Santa’s hat.  Then add 2 eyes and a nose.  Next have the students count out 9 cotton balls to add on the face.  One cotton ball for the end of Santa’s hat and then 2 cotton balls for each finger.  I put dots on where the student should add the glue and cotton balls.

So cute!!!

Finally we made these delicious Christmas Cone as a whole group lesson in one of my preschool classrooms, kindergarten classrooms, and special education classrooms.  I made a simple recipe to make the green frosting.

Each student got an upside down sugar cone and spread the green frosting all around it.  Add any kind of toppings you want to the tree.  I had my students count out a certain number of M & M’s, sprinkle shakes, dots, and other fun candy to practice counting and also to limit the number of candy each student got!
