Exploring Calming Strategies: Emotional Freedom Technique/Tapping

I am excited to share a new calming strategy that has been extremely effective with my students of all ages.  It is called Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping for short.  In this post, I will share with you what tapping is, how you can utilize it with your students and resources where you can learn more!

What is Tapping?

Tapping is a calming strategy that involves tapping on different meridian points of the body, similar to acupressure points.  Tapping on these points can help regulate emotions.

Is tapping effective?

According to The Tapping Solution website, there have been over 300 peer reviewed studies showing the effectiveness of tapping.  Tapping is shown to alter brain activity and decrease resting heart rate and blood pressure.  It sends calming signals to the brain and helps regulate the nervous system, allowing you to feel relaxed.

How do I get started with tapping?

The great news is, tapping is FREE and requires no specialized equipment!  It can benefit everyone, from young children to adults.  It is a super quick and easy strategy to incorporate in a daily routine, whether at school or at home.  Currently, many of my classrooms have a tapping routine during morning meeting, or during an afternoon check in (which usually follows lunch/recess, which can be dysregulating for many students).  This might be a great place to start! There are many resources available if you are interested in trying tapping with your students, or even yourself.  I will include some of these below!

Have you heard of tapping? Are you interested in trying it? Let me know your feedback in the comments!   Happy Tapping!
