Snow & Snowman Themed Activities for All Levels

Categories: Curriculum Ideas | Winter

The only – and let me say that again – only – good thing about the excessive and ridiculous amount of  snow we have experienced lately is that I can do a truckload of snow themed activities. I held off on any thing snowman related prior to Christmas because I felt overwhelmed with the all of the ridiculously cute pinterest inspired Christmas activities to fit in during December. But Santa and Rudolph have been long packed up and this dang snow just won’t quit, so it’s time to enjoy a little snowman loving.

Here are all the fun snowman and interactive snow themed activities for all types of learners!

Shaving Cream Snowmen: Mix shaving cream and glue – it’s super fun and easy. We used googley eyes and dried black beans to jazz it up a bit. 🙂

Fake Snow: Love this one. I got this kit from amazon over four years ago and I still have TONS left. Talk about getting your money’s worth – one teaspoon makes a whole bowl full! We played with fake snow, ‘shoveled’ it in and out of bowls, made snowballs, wrote in the snow, and played with action figures in it. Great sensory, fine motor, and creativity all in one!

Snow Themed Writing Activities: With my higher kids we also used the fake snow activity to work on adjectives – and explain how the fake snow felt. We did a writing activity revolving around this. We also worked on sequencing. I like using color coding to break down each step for my more visual learners!

Snowman Glyph: I got this awesome freebie from Tales of a First Grade Teacher for a Snowman Glyph. Love this one! And so did the kids – the finished product turned out great. I told them their snowmen would tell a secret message about themselves – they liked that 🙂

Say it to a Snowman Game: We played Say it to a Snowman (my freebie on TpT). My kids really loved this and got into using voices and acting it out!

Snowman Comic: We did an extension activity of this game by making comics! Download the comic template here!

Snowman Read Aloud and Comprehension Activities: We read a bunch of snowman books (with plenty of comprehension questions), did some snowman color sheets for color identification, and practiced our counting programs using snowman erasers!

I LOVE the snowman theme! It’s easier to make a little more age appropriate but still find appropriately level materials! Anything fun you do for the ‘snow’ theme?

  1. Wow, Sasha, I love the shaving cream and glue snowman idea. Never heard of it. So do you mix them half shaving cream and half glue? Thanks for another great idea!

Also, to Sasha or anyone out here in Sasha’s fandom… Do you know of anyone who teaches similar self contained special ed class like Sasha, but for younger kids?? I teach K-3 with autism, intellectual disabilities, severe speech disorders, etc. I’d love to see someone’s blog/store or just email to compare notes. Thx, Lisa
